| The 1955 - 1956 school year was very memorable to me. I was in the 5th grade and Mrs. Albert Anderson was my teacher. She only taught one school year at C.J.A. but it made a big impression on me. This was the year that I would experience two things for the first time. This was the year that I would spend my first night away from home and the first time to go to the bathroom in an outhouse. Mrs. Anderson would invite a few of her students each night to spend the night at her home on Talent road in Collegedale. We slept in the bunkhouse behind the main house. We had our very own bathroom (outhouse) just a few feet from the bunkhouse. I don't remember if there was a crescent moon cut in the wood door or not. Before supper we went down to a nearby creek and picked water cress. Recently I made a return visit to Mrs. Anderson's old place. The bunk house is still there and in good shape. The bunk house has been turned into a storage shed so I guess no more 5th graders will be spending there first night away from home there. The old outhouse is just about to fall over so the chance to pay just one more visit to its old wood seat will have to be the memory of that night long ago. The little creek is still there and seems bigger than I remember.
