Mrs. Deaver gets acquainted with her students:
On the first day of school, Mrs. Deaver went around the classroom asking each student what they wanted to be called. By the time Mrs. Deaver got around to John Swafford he knew there were two other Johns in the room. There was Johnny Cunningham and John Ramsey. Having two Johns in the same class was confusing enough and three Johns would never do. Without hesitation number three John said you can call me John Allen. John Allen has stuck to this day.
Trip to Cloudland Canyon:
Riding on a Greyhound bus was something no one in the class had done. Mrs. Deaver decided that the class needed a field trip and what better way to get there than on a Greyhound Bus. It just so happened, that first grader Shelia Messick's father drove a Greyhound bus. Shelia's dad was happy to provide his Greyhound for the trip to Cloudland Canyon.
